Pour profiter d’un bon moment à la forêt Vatable (pique-niquer ou pratiquer du Géocaching) c'est facile: il faut prendre la route des Trois-Ilets et tourner à droite quand vous voyez le panneau indicateur. C’est avant le bourg quand vous venez de Rivière Salée.
LE SITE :
La forêt de Vatable a été fortement touchée par les intempéries en 2007. Mais très rapidement, les choses ont étés prises en main. Les sentiers ont été nettoyés. La forêt a retrouvé sa prestance d'antan avec ses bancs, ses tables, ses sentiers et même son amphithéâtre en plein air. Vous avez une superbe vue sur Fort-de-France et le littoral de Trois-Ilets. On ne dirait pas mais il vous faudra au moins une heure pour faire le tour de la forêt. Les essences et la faune sont indiquées (mais pas assez à mon avis).
La rénovation du site a été financée par le Conseil Régional et L'Europe. Elle est entretenue par L'Office Nationale des Forêts mandatée par le Conseil Régional. Le site est sur les terres de l'ancienne habitation Vatable. Les ruines du dépôt de rhum vous rappelleront ce passé. (Vous ne pourrez pas toutefois vous en approcher. L'accès est dangereux). C'est un site idéal pour la promenade en famille. En revenant vers le parking, le sentier longe le littoral et vous donne ainsi un aperçu de l'écosystème présent dans la mangrove. La forêt de Vatable fait partie de l'ensemble des massifs forestiers appelé forêt domaniale du littoral.
LA CACHE :
Une fois que vous aurez stationné sur le parking, le site est très facile d'accès même pour les enfants. La cache de taille petite est placée sur le parcours. Attention, le sentier côté Mangrove est assez glissant en période de pluie. SVP pour la survie de la cache, faîtes preuve d'une grande discrétion car les lieux sont assez fréquentés par les marcheurs, sportifs et promeneurs.
NOTE IMPORTANTE : Si c'est possible, de préférence à faire à deux au minimum ou en groupe par mesure de sécurité. L'endroit étant calme et très agréable mais vous pouvez vous trouver isolé.
To take advantage of a good moment in the forest Vatable (either for a Picnic or to practice Geocaching) it is easy: go to the direction of Trois-Ilets and turn right when you see the road sign indicating the forest. It is before the village when you come from Rivière Salée.
THE SITE :
The forest of Vatable. The forest was strongly affected by the bad weather in 2007. But very quickly, things were taken in hand. Paths were cleaned. The forest found its imposing presence of former days with its benches, its tables, its paths and even its outdoor amphithêatre. You have a magnificent view on Fort-de-France and the coast of Trois-Ilets.. We would not say but you will need at least one hour to make the tour of the forest. Essences and fauna are indicated (yet not enough in my opinion).
The renovation of the site was financed by the Regional council and Europe. It is maintained by The Service Nationale of the Forests appointed by the Regional council. The site is on the lands of the former house Vatable. The ruins of the deposit of rum will remind you this past. (You cannot however approach it. The access is dangerous.) it is an ideal site for a family walk. By returning towards the parking lot, the path goes along the coast and so gives you an overview of the present ecosystem in the mangrove swamp. The forest of Vatable is a part of all the forest massifs called national forest of the coast.
THE CACHE :
Once you have parked your car, the site is very easily accessible even for children. The cache of regular size is placed a few meters away from the beach. Please use extreme stealth as the site is frequently visited by walkers and sportsmen
IMPORTANT NOTICE : if possible, to be done preferably with a group of a minimum of 2 people for your own security. The site is quiet and very pleasant but you can be easily isolated.
