This cache is in a place Wander Lost's family spent countless weekends camping.
This property was once owned by our family. Back in the late 1970's WL's dad bought this lot on the beach north of Copalis. We did quite a bit of clam digging at that time and it was getting harder and harder to find a spot at the Ocean City State Park. Sometimes for a really good tide Ken would drive the trailer down on Tuesday or Wednesday night just so we'd have a spot. When this property went on the auction block he had to have it.
Back when we first got the property it was just a low spot on the side of the highway. We built a road/driveway down into the lot, cleared out the undergrowth, made several campsites and a fire pit complete with benches from driftwood. We had a lot of good times there. We almost always had other family members join us. It was the perfect beach hideout.
Trouble was, the state thought so too. They decided our little property was the best place to put in a beach access road. There went our peace and quiet. At the same time the kids were getting older and camping at the beach with Mom & Dad wasn't so much fun. The claming season kept getting shorter and shorter until they stopped it all together for a few years. We stopped using the lot and Ken put a 'For Sale' sign up.
To put an end to my story, the property was eventually sold to a lady who in turn donated the land to the county for a park. The county hasn't done anything to the property and it is now overgrown and all you can see of the work we did is the bench near the fire pit.
We took Lost One and his cousin 'Erick the Red' with us when we placed this cache. WL told them the history of the property and about all the good times they had there. Seeing the boys running around there was just like looking through a time portal.
Now that you have read our little tale, here are the details you are looking for. The cache is hidden in an ammo can. The satellite coverage was terrible due to the heavy tree cover. We took several readings and went with the one from WL's GPS since her's said our elevation was 65' and MG1's said we were at 330' and that was obviously wrong.
*Update 7/05/05*
The original cache has been confirmed missing. We placed a new container a short distance away. The reception is better here, but you will have to make your way through chest high grass. The previous location was a bit easier to get to and spot which may have been why it went missing. This spot is actually closer to where we spent all our time as a family, but is now so overgrown you can't even find the old fire circle.
