Geocache Description:


MISSION, City of 34 Square Miles. This is on the S side of W Griffin Parkway, W of Inspiration Road, in the City of Mission, Hidalgo County, Texas. The City of Mission is named after La Lomita mission. Most activities took place in this mission area between 1906 and 1908. The Missouri Pacific Railroad then established a station four miles north and soon became the City of Mission. CITRUS was first planted in this area. Irrigation permitted fields to produce three crops a year. Mission is called "Home of the Ruby Red Grapefruit" since 1921. Just below the sign City of Mission Pop. 77,058 is another sign: No Texting While Driving ORD #3642. Population:1920: 3,847. 1960: 14,081. 2000: 45,408. 2010: 77,058 Est. 2016: 83,563. Some notable people are Lloyd Bentsen, William Jennings Bryan, Kika de la Garza and Tom Landry. There is much to see and do in the City of Mission. Your favorite? Enjoy!
