To celebrate 2319 I want to introduce cachers to Rocky Fork State Park, a 2,076 acres of scenic wilderness in Unicoi County, in the southern Appalachian Mountains of East Tennessee. The park is approximately 30 minutes from both Johnson City and Asheville, N.C., and 10 miles from Erwin, the county seat. Part of the Rocky Fork watershed, the land was designated a Tennessee State Park in October 2012, but wasn't officially opened and staffed until May 2015.
We will have a meet and greet for about 30 minutes. There are a number of caches in the park, in fact there are 2 along the road up to the park. For todays event, I will plan on us going as far as the cache GC6DNZQ. The park is working on a new trail to White House Cliff but we will hold off getting that one until the new trail is completed.
