This is the oldest cemetery in Chinchilla with burials dating back to the early 1900s. There are many interesting headstones and motifs in this cemetery. Many of Chinchilla's oldest pioneers would be buried here if you're looking for one of your ancestors.
Near the rear of the cemetery is a memorial dedicated to Ludwig Leichhardt the explorer who's expedition led him through Chinchilla (naming it 'Jinchilla' after the aboriginal word for Cypress Pine but his German accent may have been the reason that it was inevitably named Chinchilla ) and his indigenous tracker Charley Fisher after whom the local creek 'Charley's Creek' is named.
This cache has room for some small swag.
