Tour de Ojai II -- April 6, 2019

The OVC invites you to have a fun time exploring the scenic Ojai Valley with a picture scavenger hunt and geocaching event.

$5 donation fee per person suggested (donations used for prizes, raffle, and supplies).

Watch for updates and announcements.

The event begins at 8:30 am at JJ's Sports Zone's lot in Oak View where teams will be given a packet of landmark photos to find, a list of geocaches within 0.1 miles of each landmark, and a list of "Scavenger Hunt" items to photograph, such as, "Take a picture of an electric bicycle." Points will be given for each landmark photo or Scavenger Hunt item you find and photograph. One person from each team will be designated as the wristband wearer and will need to be in each photo. Additionally, Point Chips will be placed in most of the geocaches with points awarded to the first three teams to find each geocache.

The official send-off will be at 9:00am, following a brief briefing by Badfeet wearing briefs (under his pants).

*TEAM: A team consists of at least two geocachers in one vehicle. Your team is only limited by the number of seat belts you have in your car. Please provide your Team Name and Team Players ASAP. We are capping the number of teams at twenty. We currently have seventeen teams.

*SCORING:

  • 10 points for each Landmark Photo
  • 5 to 30 points for each geocache Point Chip
  • 5 points for each Scavenger Hunt Photo (Picture must be of the actual, real object)

Bonus for arrival time at Finish:

  • 10 points - 12:30-12:45
  • 5 points – 12:45-1:00
  • 0 points - 1:00-1:15
  • -10 points – 1:15-1:30
  • The Cut-off for tallying points is at 1:30.

THE FINISH: The Tour de Ojai Valley will finish at JJ’s Sports Zone in Oak View where you can order and pay for lunch at the bar then mingle with geocachers on the back patio. There is no requirement to order food, but no outside food will be allowed.

Make sure that one team member IMMEDATELY reports to the Check-in Table. OjaiT and mrdsw will record the check in time and collect your Geocache Chips.

Taking Location and Scavenger Hunt Photos

One team member will wear a wristband. That person, the wristband, and each location or scavenger hunt item must appear in every photo. All photos must be taken with one camera or smartphone capable of showing the photo without being downloaded. Photos must be of the actual object: photoshopped or pictures of the object are not allowed. Teams may choose to submit their photos EITHER “On the Run” OR “At the End”

Each team needs to have a designated photographer. They will be the one posting photos of your travels and the one we will use to verify your efforts. This person will need a smartphone with a camera. If choosing to submit photos "On the Run", the photographer must be capable of emailing the photos to tourdeojai@gmail.com

Submitting Photos "On the Run". This is our preferred method of receiving photos.

  • E-mail each photo to tourdeojai@gmail.com
  • The subject line will be "Team Number Photo Identifier": For example T5 L15
  • To save DATA, we suggest changing the cameras setting to the smallest sized photo. If your email program allows the photo to be resized further, that is encouraged.

Submitting Photos "At the End"If your team in not capable of emailing photos are choose not to, you may submit your photos "At the End".

  • Have the photographer report to the Scorer's Table.
  • Feral Kat and gsmx2 will verify each photograph and record the score
  • Remember, all photos must be contained on one smartphone or camera.
