Geocache Description:

Every town seems to have one or more of these places, an unofficial parking spot to try to sell your car privately.

Over the years that I have been driving past this place, I have seen many types of vehicle parked up, including some very large transporters, whose drivers are making use of the nearby Motel for their compulsory rest stops.

Apart from the cache, there is little else of particular interest in this layby (unless you're maybe looking to buy a car), but on the other side of the road, approximately 100m south from the cache, you will find Black Beauty, a Steel and Glass Fibre statue of a horse.

This magnificent outside installation was the work of J. A. Fligel, originally from Scotland but who now lives in Toronto. During 1992 - 1993 he travelled to New Zealand where he designed and built the large stylized horse made of metal and mixed media for the Awapuni Hotel, Palmerston North.

However, the Awapuni Hotel was demolished during 2013 and Black Beauty was sent to the scrapyard, but was offered a reprieve when it was bought, transported to its current site, and restored by the current owner, to be displayed for anyone to admire.

PLEASE BE AWARE that this is State Highway 1 !!!

Cars, Trucks and Motorbikes whizz by at great speed, so this is not a truly safe place for the little geocachers to be left unsupervised. Also be aware that parking is also close to an un-fenced railway track. there is NO need to go anywhere near it in order to retrieve the cache. Parking is ample, so it's easy to find a spot away from both the main road and the railway to claim the cache, but if you want to see Black Beauty then you will have to cross the road to the opposite side, and great care must be taken. Geocaching is supposed to be fun, and I want the little ones to grow up to enjoy caching in the future.

This is a simple park and grab.

There is absolutely no need to remove the thing at the front to access the cache. Use the Hint.

Being a Micro, there is no room for SWAG or TB's – please bring your own scrawling device.

Please re-hide exactly as found, and report any damage.
