Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the published co-ords the co-ords.
This is a letterbox off- set cache and the cache is placed some distance away because we could not find a spot along the nearby lanes that we were happy to use.
This post box is set into the wall of a brick built outbuilding .
The box is a wall inset type of design.
The post box number is BH23 27 .
Some of the data on the lower left hand corner of the post box identification has become damaged ,so instead of using that info for the data collecting for this cache we have made puzzle element a simple question of directional orientation.

Question.Look at the post box at headline co-ords .
To obtain the value of "ab ", that are needed from the trailhead stage for measuring the final metres and direction to cache location, ascertain whether the post box faces North or West.
If North let ab = 40 if West let ab = 80

Relocate to parking place at N 50 45.742 W 001 43.898 Please do not park here at night.

Then walk the sometimes muddy path to trailhead at N 50 45.579 W 001 43.898
passing through a gateway that may have a livestock notice on it.
From trailhead walk on a bearing of ab *3 degrees magnetic down to another gate .
Exit gate that may have "Bridleway Only No Motorycles" sign on it.
Then continue ab + 55 metres starting on a bearing of (ab *3(+ 15 )) degrees magnetic.
Cache is a small clip lock container on R.H.S.of path and is 5ft up in hollow of partly decaying upright trunk.
Contains a mini log book in a mini pot and a letterbox stamp that needs to stay in the cache.

Team Hippo has asked that the following information is included on the cache page.

Another cache in what has the potential to become a National Numbered Series of Letterbox Hybrid caches, placed to mark one of a diminishing number of post boxes placed in Queen Victoria’s reign and still in use for regular collections by Royal Mail.

The stamp in the cache is NOT a trade item, and must remain in the cache!

A few simple guidelines will apply to the series (subject to amendment):

  • The post box must carry the Royal Cipher of Queen Victoria (in whatever format)
  • The box must have regular collections by Royal Mail
  • The box must be in the British Isles (so United Kingdom and adjoining Crown Dependencies).
  • Any style or colour of box are valid as long as the above all apply

If you know of an eligible post box and would like to add to this series, please apply to Team Hippo for a series number, giving the following:

  • Location as in place name (and street if applicable)
  • Location in Lat Long format (DD MM.MMM)
  • Postbox number

Please note that featured post boxes should comply with the guidelines above. Caches should be Letterbox Hybrid type (and therefore contain a LB stamp), whether placed at the published co-ords, or a simple offset multi, or multi-stage multi, or more of a puzzle style format.
