Congratulations on becoming the new program director for WGCR - Geocache Radio.
The idea of WGCR originated in Atlanta when talk2azs created and started running multiple online music radio stations from his home.
Over time, those stations began to generate some cash flow which soon paid all the music royalty fees. One day, while dreaming up his next complex Wherigo project, an idea developed in his head: Why not incorporate a LIVE commercial free online Internet radio station into a new mystery cache? In June 2017, WGCR - Geocache Radio was born in Loganville, GA.
Your job as Program Director
The radio station airs a basic '80s playlist around the clock created by talk2azs. However, as program director, you have the ability to choose the songs you would like to hear from a library containing well over 10,000 songs. Choose individual songs or an entire genre of music for your listening pleasure. Requested songs always get played first. But keep in mind, if multiple people are listening and selecting music, the songs get played in the order they were requested. It is a first-come-first-served type of system. Remember that multiple geocachers may be listening and selecting music at the same time. These songs will get played in the order they were requested.
How to find the geocache coordinates
While you listen to this station, stay alert for codes that are announced on the air. Once you hear a code you must enter that code onto the WGCR Geocache Radio webpage. (Link provided below.) Once you have listened long enough to hear and enter 3 codes on the web page you will be given the final cache coordinates for the container.
Note: It is recommended to participate in another activity while enjoying the music. So, wash those dishes, fold the laundry, work on another puzzle, or construct a new cache container. The codes will be very obvious when broadcast and each code is valid for 15 minutes.
No need to fret about a difficult puzzle or complex math problem — just listen to music!
RULES and other important tips
• To prevent abuse the server is set to allow only 16 requested songs per hour.
• Internet ports 81, 1221, and 1222 need to be open. Some corporate IT departments block those ports due to their Internet usage policies.
• You must enable pop-ups in your web browser for the Geocache Radio to appear.
• You will need to have an MP3 audio player that is capable of playing m3u playlists installed on your listening device. Most operating systems already have one installed.
• DO NOT try to guess the codes. After multiple incorrect guesses, Geocache Radio will impose a 1-hour restriction on new codes being entered by the impatient geocacher.
• DO NOT attempt to select the same song multiple times in a row. Geocache Radio servers are set to thwart such attempts.
• YOU MAY use the online radio station for your personal use. When Geocache Radio was first tested, the station was used for a home gathering on July 4, 2017. The station was played on a computer connected to the home sound system, with a laptop out for guests to select music from the station playlist.
