With my cache "Swanky Neighbourhood" (GC73X42), having been blown apart by the wind, it was time to replace it. Not wanting to continually place balsa wood "mansions" for the squirrels to chew apart and the wind to toy with, I came by this favourite trail a few weeks ago with my GPS to find a new spot for a totally new hide. At that point of the winter it was very cold out on Torbay Point, and the cold killed my cellphone battery quickly - meaning I couldn't get a picture of Mr. White Snowshoe Hare that bounded out at ground zero, such as the one below:

(Click on the pic for the Hinterland "Who's Who" bit on the snowshoe hare; cool stuff if you are a naturalist.)
So I thought of "White Rabbit" being this new cache, but since I'd already done that (GC6FAGK), I figured I'd keep to the traditional hides here along the trail.
Fast forward to today, and I finally got back to make the hide. As I'm just hitting the trailhead and fumbling with my gear to turn on my GPS, I think to look up. Well. Hello Miss Moose!

(Again, if you click on the pic you get some cool facts / videos regarding the moose from Hinterland's Who's Who.)
One of my friends runs these trails with a running group. Can you imagine running as fast as you can in these conditions, come around the turn on the boardwalk and... HELLO!
I think my geocaching hiking stick and I are good at this distance, especially since I can hear Miss Moose's calf out in the grub.
As a couple of hikers were coming from the other direction and walking and talking loudly, Miss Moose's hearing abilities told her to move off for cover, which she did, keeping me from having to somehow go around her (which I'm thinkin' wasn't really happenin').
As for the cache, it's a few hundred metres down the trail, to have appropriate distances required from other caches. It is a 125mL camo'd lock-n-lock container, with a little swag and a TB upon initial hide.
