Geocache Description:

The heavy rains that saturated Dallas the spring of 2015 brought more than 13 feet of standing water forcing the park to shut its gates until October 16.

The flooding caused by the rain submerged many of the popular trails, camping grounds and swimming areas, rendering them useless for more than six months. The summer months are responsible for roughly 80 percent of the park’s annual revenue, making the park’s months-long closure a serious financial blow. It was estimated the park lost 50 percent of its annual visitors and between 40 and 50 percent of its annual revenue.

Restrooms had been flooded up to their roofs, sinkholes had opened on the hiking trail, dead cacti were tangled in the tops of trees, electrical boxes for the camping grounds were ruined and serious erosion took place along the shoreline.

The park is just now beginning to come back. Some campsites will never be re-opened and there has been no decision as to the re-opening of the small pavilion. Due to money, it's unlikely.

Cedar Hill is not alone. All State Parks need our help and support. Besides, they make great places for caching! Permit is on file at the park office.
