Geocache Description:

Background:

On friday the 15th of February 2019 Vespucci College (a Dutch high school on Curacao) organized Discovery Day. All pupils of the school learned about the culture and nature of Curacao through geocaching. The school was divided within four themes: Arts & LiteratureMonuments & HistoryNature and Geography & Geology. The pupils prepared geocaches with different subjects within these four themes and on Discovery Day these caches were hidden by the pupils.
Vespucci College hopes to learn locals and tourists about the culture and nature of Curacao through these caches too! Happy caching!

The cache:

This cache is dedicated to sea turtles. Close to Landhuis Ascension there is a place where sea turtles lay their eggs. There are three types of sea turtles that regularly nest on Curacao from May through December: the green turtle, loggerheads and the hawksbill. They are all endangered species! Favourite spots are Shete Boka, Ascension and Klein Curacao, but they've also been spotted at Cas Abou, Kenepa Chiki and Porto Marie.

Did you know sea turtles can return to the beach where they were born to lay their own eggs?

This cache was made by Owen (1bc) and Joey (1ab) of Vespucci College.
