Geocache Description:

Annie Hogan (nee McKinnon) was born in 1845 at Middle Creek between Crookwell and Peelwood.  At the age of 5 her family moved to Sapling Creek.

When she was very young, her father joined the gold rush to Bendigo and passed away while there.

At 17, she attended a dance in Binda.  During the festivities, the bushrangers - Ben Hall, John Gilbert and Johnnie Dunn arrived.  When Annie was interviewed in 1945, she was asked "How did they behave?".  "Like gentlemen." she replied.  "They danced with us and treated us like we were toffs and were enjoying themselves thoroughly until it was revealed to them that there was a plan a foot to rush them and make them captives. And that was the end of the dance." i.e. They burnt the building to the ground.

At the age of 25, she married Henry Hogan and 4 years later they moved into "Springmount". They were to have 9 children but only 2 of her children outlived her with most of them dying at a young age.

From 1876 Henry ran The Spring Inn which was located across the road from Springmount.

Annie was the local midwife and would ride around the district delivering babies.  She was an accomplished horse woman and always rode side-saddle.

She celebrated her 100th birthday at Springmount and passed away in Goulburn on 28th August 1946.
