Geocache Description:

Thomasville History Series - The Lapham-Patterson House

This geocache is located at The Lapham-Patterson House, a beautiful 19th century home in Thomasville, Georgia. The cache is located near this historic home, but is not on the property. Parking is readily availible on Dawson and Webster Streets beside the house. Please take special care to respect neighbors as this is a residential area. Please Do Not enter any yard. Hope you enjoy the hunt!

The Lapham-Patterson House, a National Historic Landmark, is a Queen Ann-style cottage built during the winter of 1884-1885 for Chicago shoe merchant Charles Willard Lapham.
The most striking features of “Lapham’s whimsy” are the unusual number of doors and windows, believed to be related to Lapham’s pyrophobia, believed to have been rooted in his experience during the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. There are forty-five doors and fifty-three windows for only nineteen rooms, meaning that virtually every room in the house had multiple exits.

Tours of the Lapham-Patterson House are available.

THIS GEOCACHE IS JUST ONE OF SIXTEEN IN THE THOMASVILLE HISTORY GEOCACHING SERIES. THIS ENTERTAINING AND INFORMATIVE SERIES LEADS GEOCACHERS ON AN EXCITING TOUR OF THOMASVILLE, GEORGIA. FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE SERIES OR TO SEE THE ROUTE, CLICK HERE!
