Geocache Description:

Just a bit of hockey history.

Six Sutters from Viking, Alberta made hockey history as the most brothers to play in the NHL at one time. Brian played for the St. Louis Blues, Darryl followed him to the NHL to play for the Chicago Blackhawks, next came Duane who helped the New York Islanders win 4 Stanley Cups in a row, with Brent joining in the celebration for the last 2 Cups. They both went on to play for the Chicago Blackhawks to end their playing careers. Twins, Ron and Rich were drafted by the Philedelphia Flyers and Pittsburg Penguins respectively. Their tour of the NHL included many cities, they got to join their efforts twice, playing for the Flyers, and later for the Blues.

They have all retired from their playing careers now. Brian coaches the Blackhawks, Darryl is coaching the Calgary Flames, Duane is coach for the Florida Panthers. Brent is closest to Viking now and owns and Coaches the WHL Red Deer Rebels. Ron is on the Calgary Flames staff and Rich works for the Minnesota Wild. There is an older brother, Gary, who never played pro hockey but is their biggest fan.

While Viking is also known for being home of Edmonton Oilers Glen Sather, the sign welcoming you to Viking claims to be "Home of the Sutters". These coordinates will take you to the unique welcoming sign.

Not only is Viking the home of the real Sutter Brothers, it is the starting point for my Sutter Brother Travel Bugs who are racing to complete a tour of the cities the brothers have played and coached hockey in. This will be the first cache they will be registered in. You can follow their travels here.
