Old Sarum is the original site of Salisbury and the first Cathedral, in addition to the fort itself. Set on a hill above the city of Salisbury, it has excellent views of the city and surrounding coutryside, easy parking and space for games and picnics.
The central part of the hillfort has an admission charge but you can access much of the site, the parking and the cache without paying. If you arrive when the site is closed then you can park off the road and still access the cache by footpaths.
More information about Old Sarum is available at this web site.
This cache is a small tupperware box. Original contents included: a torch for caching at night, multitool, finger puppets and model cars. When replacing the cache please ensure it is hidden from view in every direction.
An Ordnance Survey map for the overall location is available at this web site.
Whilst you're here, there is an interesting memorial just 400m along the main road. This is the stone commemorating the first reference point for Ordnance Survey mapping. This was the point from which the rest of the country was first referenced. For more information check out this web site.
