Geocache Description:

cylindrical This is an off set Letterbox Hybrid cache and the headline co-ords
are for the Victorian Post Box and not the final cache location.
But the information for determining the final metres and direction to the cache from waypoint 1
N 50 51.080 W 001 52.912 can be found at the headline co-ords .
This post box is an example of a cylindrical Pillar Box style and stilll has an oval Post Office direction sign attached to the top of it.
Info at the post box
Post Box number BH21 ab .
Alpha numberic value of first letter of the last line above Saturday = c
Number of lines of embossed wording along bottom black plinth of the Post Box = d

From the junction at waypoint 1 N 50 51.080 W 001 52.912
cache is aprox (b+1)(c - d)(a+b) metres away on (d-1 )(a-c-1 )(a+b) degrees .

We used a handheld Silva compass to do the degrees and not an online projection tool ..

Cache under small stickoflage pieces inside base of left hand side of triple trunked tree near ditch, off right hand side of track.
No need to cross ditch.
Container is a 5 inch long tube and contains a very slim stamp in base and mini log on top of the stamp.
Stamp is transparent and reads "congratulations .
The stamp is not a swop item.
We did come here prepared with various sizes of containers but after searching various options we had to come back to the first place we found and settle for hiding the smallest of the containers we had on us..

There is not a parking area at waypoint 1.
But it is easily accessible on foot from the headline co-ords by using the pedestrian crossing a short distance from the post box.
Then via the footpath that passes by the play area, in the tree clearing, before turning left along a small path to the junction.

And the Origins of the name Three Legged Cross ?
Googled as maybe because of a three legged Gibbet once there ,
or maybe because it was the boundary of three estates .

Team Hippo has asked that the following information is included on the cache page.

Another cache in what has the potential to become a National Numbered Series of Letterbox Hybrid caches, placed to mark one of a diminishing number of post boxes placed in Queen Victoria’s reign and still in use for regular collections by Royal Mail.

The stamp in the cache is NOT a trade item, and must remain in the cache!

A few simple guidelines will apply to the series (subject to amendment):

  • The post box must carry the Royal Cipher of Queen Victoria (in whatever format)
  • The box must have regular collections by Royal Mail
  • The box must be in the British Isles (so United Kingdom and adjoining Crown Dependencies).
  • Any style or colour of box are valid as long as the above all apply

If you know of an eligible post box and would like to add to this series, please apply to Team Hippo for a series number, giving the following:

  • Location as in place name (and street if applicable)
  • Location in Lat Long format (DD MM.MMM)
  • Postbox number

Please note that featured post boxes should comply with the guidelines above. Caches should be Letterbox Hybrid type (and therefore contain a LB stamp), whether placed at the published co-ords, or a simple offset multi, or multi-stage multi, or more of a puzzle style format.
