GeoTour Stop #30: Karl Stefan Memorial Airport
Norfolk Regional Airport is named for Karl Stefan, a local newspaper editor and radio announcer who served several terms in the United States Congress. Until March 2011 it was known as Karl Stefan Memorial Airport. The airport no longer has commercial flights and primarily serves the business and hobbyist community. The terminal building was built in 1946 and was designed by Norfolk architect Elbert B. Watson in Moderne style. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. A restaurant opened in the terminal building in 2011 with an aviation theme. Sadly, the restaurant has now closed. The cache was relocated to the side of the building for easier access.
