Hyttefeltet på Røstadbakken rett nord og øst for cachens posisjon har mer enn hundre hytter spredt over omtrent 350 dekar. De første hyttene ble bygd i begynnelsen av 1920-tallet, da en økonomisk oppsving etter første verdenskrig gjorde det for første gang mulig for vanlige mennesker å skaffe seg en liten ferieparadis i marka. Folk flest eide ikke bil, og en to timers gåavstand fra Trondheim Sentrum var nokså overkommelig. Mor or barna bodde gjerne hele sommeren på hytta, mens faren syklet på jobb i byen, og om kvelden ordnet mennene seg et skyss bak på en lastebil tilbake til Osbakken, hvorfra de trillet sykkelen opp tilbake til hytta.

Det mest sjarmerende med hyttene i området er at det fantes ikke noe form for offentlig regulering enda, og derfor ble hyttene bygd etter den enkelte hytteeiers eget ønske og behov. Selvfølgelig har det med tiden skjedd store endringer både i infrastruktur og en del andre forhold, og hyttene kan etter nesten hundre år ikke måle seg i størrelse med moderne hytter. Men at Røstadbakken er fortsatt avskjermet fra gjennomgangstrafikk, og at avstanden til byen er kort, gjør at det fremdeles er et tiltrekkende utelivsområdet.

The cabin area directly north and east of the site of the cache has around a hundred cabins spread out over an area of about 86 acres. The first cabins were built in the early 1920s, when an economic upswing after the first world war made it possible for the first time for common people to afford a small holiday paradise in the forests. Most people didn't own a car, so a two hour hike from the center of Trondheim was just about a doable distance. The mothers would stay with the children all summer at the cabin, while the fathers rode their bicycles to their job in town, and in the evening the men arranged a ride on the back of a lorry back to Osbakken, from where they walked with their bicycle back to the cabin.
The most charming aspect of the cabins in this area is that there were no regulations yet, which meant that the cabins were built according to each cabin owner's own wishes and needs. Of course, after many years many things have changed, both with infrastructure and other circumstances, and the cabins can't be compared to modern ones with regard to size. But Røstadbakken is still shielded from heavy traffic, and the distance to town is short, so that the area is still attractive to spend leisure time outdoors.
