"Che meraviglia! Ma questa è la Svizzera Pesciatina!"
Con queste parole lo storico ed economista Jean Charles Léonard Simonde de Sismondi battezzò la Valleriana, la valle che risale da Pescia, poiché gli ricordava la verdeggiante e montuosa Svizzera.
Sismondi nacque a Ginevra nel 1773 e arrivò in Toscana, la terra dei suoi avi, dove si dedicò allo studio delle tecniche di coltivazione locali.
Ora una Svizzera nel cuore della Toscana non ti sembrerà più una cosa strana!
I borghi di quest’area hanno una storia millenaria e prendono il nome di Castella.

"It’s wonderful! This is Svizzera Pesciatina!"
When the Swiss historian and economist Jean Charles Léonard Simonde de Sismondi visited this area he named it “Svizzera Pesciatina” (Swiss Pescia) because it reminded him of its green and mountainous Switzerland.
Sismondi was born in Geneva in 1773 and arrived in Tuscany, the land of his ancestors, where he studied the local cultivation techniques.
Now a Switzerland in the hearth of Tuscany should not sound you odd anymore!
The hamlets of this area have a thousand year old history and are named Castella.
