Thomasville History Series - The Seixas House

This geocache is located at one of Thomasville’s oldest homes. The cache is located on the right of way, between the sidewalk and the street. There is no need to enter the business’s private lawn. Please do not park in the business’s parking lot.
The Seixas House, pronounced “say’ shush,” was built in 1835 by Dr. Sexias for his bride. The house is known as the oldest one-story house in Thomasville, Georgia. The Seixas House was moved to its current location, just up the road from “The Big Oak,” to avoid demolition. The home was meticulously rehabilitated based on an 1850s sketch by Thomasville Landmarks. This is a private business, please enjoy this historic home from the sidewalk.
Across the street, diagonally, from the Seixas House is the Ponder House. This Classical Revival Eclectic style house, pictured below, was built in 1856 for Ephraim Ponder. The house later served as dormitories for Young’s Female College, the stone building behind this one.
