Sorpresa! Le Castella della Valleriana/Svizzera Pesciatina non sono 10!
Infatti c’è un’undicesima Castella oggi abbandonata, ma con un fascino straordinario: Lignana.
Quasi 1.000 anni fa dalla cima di questa collina Firenze controllava il confine con Pisa e Lucca.
Lignana era cinta da possenti mura e faceva un’ottima guardia.
Ma nel 1365 fu rasa al suolo e rimase in piedi solo la piccola chiesa di SS. Jacopo e Caterina.
Attorno alla chiesa puoi ancora vedere alcuni tratti delle antiche mura e una delle due porte del paese.
Hai fatto una bella camminata per arrivare qui a Lignana, vero? Ora fai un ultimo sforzo e raggiungi la sommità del monte: verrai ripagato da una vista mozzafiato, oltre che da un’adrenalinica cache!

Surprise! The Castella of Valleriana/Svizzera Pesciatina are not 10!
Indeed there is an 11th Castella, now deserted, but extraordinarily charming: Lignana.
Almost 1.000 years ago from the top of this hill, Florence controlled the border with Pisa and Lucca.
Lignana was surrounded by strong walls and kept a good watch.
But in 1365 it was destroyed and only the little church of SS. Jacopo and Caterina was saved.
Around the church you can see some remains of the ancient walls and one of the two gates of the village.
You took a long walk to arrive here in Lignana, don’t you? Now, make an other little effort to reach the top of the mountain: you will win a breath-taking view…and the cache of course!
Please, do not publish any picture of the cache.
