Geocache Description:

08 June 2019, 09:45 - 10:15

Fancy a walk that's a little bit different? Back by popular demand.....

This event will take place at the causeway near the first tower where we will stop for a team photo between 0945 and 1015 hrs

If you want to walk with us, we will begin at the parking waypoint STRICTLY at 0900 hrs, so get there early enough to be ready to leave at this time. Anyone arriving after this time will have to run and catch us up. We have a tide to race (low tide at 1058 hrs). The car park is not huge, so you will need to squeeze in.

The route will go through the woodland, skirt the golf course before reaching the shore. From there we will continue on the small path parallel to the shore until we reach the remains of the old causeway.  Then we will follow the receding tide across the sand flats to near the first giant green starboard marker tower in the middle of the Clyde. We will then walk along the line of towers in a westerly direction until time and tide demand that we head back to shore.  There are already 5 caches in place on the towers for you to find (perhaps more to come), if you haven’t done so already.

The distance will be a minimum of 6-7km return, but may be longer depending on how far the tide will allow. Please note the d/t rating, I have overestimated slightly, but please consider before attempting. The paths in the wood are uneven with a steep slope to go down and back up, you will have to avoid whacked golf balls, the path towards the shore is rough and uneven, then disappears into long grass with deep divots for the last 50m (I know, I went down one of them). The sand will be muddy and wet and you may need to wade, depending on the tide state.

Sensible footwear, ie. walking boots or wellies is a MUST. You may also wish to bring waterproofs, a walking pole, water and a packed lunch.  Mrs B may again make her infamous mud pies and starboard towers if you ask her nicely.
