Geocache Description:

English description

Morda vse hkrati. Neutrudni raziskovalci gora še vedno iščejo odgovore na to vprašanje. Seštej vse števke v obeh rojstnih letnicah Toneta Cevca in Vlasta Kopača (vrednost A).

Leta 1945 so bile bajte požgane.

Pastirji pasejo, molzejo krave, kosijo travo, delajo tlako (čiščenje gozda, poti …).

As its name indicates, the Gorenjska region is distinguished by mountains (gore means mountains). People of Gorenjska have always lived in close connection with mountains, which is evident from their culture and their past, preserved in museums. Stories from the mountains are a part of the history we share, which can be found in the museums.

Škofja Loka Museum presents Lubnik mountain and items from the Copper Age, Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik introduces Alpine dairy farming and life at Velika planina, Tržič Museum highlights the ski competition at Zelenica, Museum of Apiculture in Radovljica presents breeding stations which are located on the way to the Roblekov dom mountain hut on Mt. Begunjščica, Museum of Gorenjska in Kranj pays tribute to the 40th anniversary of the first Slovenian ascent of Mount Everest, the preparation of which took place at Jošt mountain in Kranj, the Slovenian Alpine Museum in Mojstrana with its exhibition Mountain Paradise invites visitors to reflect upon our past and present attitude to mountains, which can be internalized on Golica mountain. By May 2020, mountains and museums will become a treasure of adventure!

Life in the Kamnik Mountains

The coordinates will place you at the Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik, where you will find the cache at the reception. It is locked with a combination lock and to get the right combination you will need to find the answers to some questions, all of which can be answered by a visit of the permanent exhibition Life in the Kamnik Mountains.

Before you enter the museum and sign the logbook, you have to get a key information for the calculation at Tablica virtual stage. Go to the virtual stage Tablica, find a blue tablet with a big white number written in the middle. You get value X. To get the missing values from A to F, you will need to answer some questions. We recommend you see the exhibition. There is no need for interaction with the museum staff.

The earliest known evidence of human presence in Velika planina alpine pasture plateau dates to the Bronze Age. The axe from Tiha dolina and numerous fragments of pottery from Pečice are from 3200 years ago. Were the first visitors of alpine pastures and mountains hunters, pickers, miners or shepherds? Perhaps all of this. Inexhaustible mountain researchers are still looking for answers to these questions. Sum up all the numbers in the birth year of Tone Cevc and Vlasto Kopač (value A).

Velika planina is the largest alpine pasture plateau in Slovenia. Bells and clappers prove the pasture conclusively. One of the oldest bells (from 1st century AD) was located on the herdsman path to Velika planina above sv. Primož mountain. Count how many bells are there at the exhibition (value B).

Seasonal pasture became the main activity at the alpine pasture plateau, which is mentioned in the court records as Velika konjska planina. The type of grazing livestock has changed throughout the centuries. Nowadays, an indigenous breed of cows called cika is coming back to the alpine pasture. Sum up the numbers of the year when Velika planina was mentioned as Die Gross Ross Alben (value C).

The landscape of Velika planina was once distinguished by oval cottages. The beginnings of such architecture date to the end of the 16th century and the early 17th century. In 1945, the cottages were burnt down. Only the Preskar family built a new cottage that was oval as in the past, the oval part housed the cattle. The cottage was turned into a museum. A modest room for a shepherd included a simple bed, open fire and a shelf for pots. This sufficed for the brief summer season. Count the exhibited archaeological objects that were found on location Na stanu, between Kocjan's and Hban's cottages (value D).

Right: Trnič hard cheese and trnič wooden moulds from the collection of Vlasto Kopač (photo by Tomaž Lauko)

In their spare time, shepherds would make trnič – salty cheese made of cottage cheese, cream from sour milk and salt. Trnič was decorated with special wooden seals and dried above the open fire. When shepherds returned from the mountains, they give the hard cheese (trnič) to their sweethearts. Count the original wooden seals, including those in the cabinet on the left (value E).

The shepherds herd their cattle, milk cows, mow the grass, clear the forest and the paths, etc. In the past sheperds made wooden toys, pipes, kitchen utensils, etc. in their spare time. Today, life on the mountain is not much different from that in the valley. Count the number of a well-preserved pipes in the showcase (value F) - do not add two pipe caps to the sum.

Checksum: A + B + C + D + E + F + X = 131

Unlock the combination lock by using the formula:

E * ( A + C - X) + X + B + 1 - D + 2 * F = YYYY
