Geocache Description:

TWEEZERS REQUIRED. Many people are not aware that Poynton's original main street was the area around Vicarage Lane's junction with London Road. In 1880 the houses had their brickwork painted yellow and it was known as 'The Golden City'. Just past Vicarage Road (on the side of the cache) there was a row of houses, built in approximately 1770, which continued round on to Vicarage Lane. Later on, and before 1850, the vicarage was built on Vicarage Lane (giving it it's name) (see photo map attached). The furthest house (nearer to Hazel Grove) was the Village Farm. There was also a shop and a smithy in the row. The old village and the vicarage were demolished in 1937, apart from the village farm, at the Hazel Grove end, which survived until the 1960s.
