The park, like many others across the region and across the country, sprang up in Victorian times in response to the noise and grime of industrialisation. It sits on the former site of C-Pit, one of many pits that were part of Wallsend Colliery.
The park was officially opened on June 4, 1900 - as reported in the local press.
It was later renamed Richardson Dees Park in recognition of solicitor and owner of Wallsend Hall, Robert Richardson Dees, who had donated the land in 1897.
The park has remained an enduringly popular feature of the town’s life and, after falling into disrepair for some years, has recently had new life breathed into it thanks to a multi-million pound regeneration project.
Please access from the park so as not to get the residents of park view worried.
The park is open from 6.30am. The gates are currently being locked at 6.30pm, this is a temporary measure and is subject to review.
Bring bread for the ducks and being the kids to the play park!
