Geocache Description:

The Grand Union Canal (formerly the Grand Junction Canal) links Birmingham to London with a waterway which is 145 miles long and contains 166 locks.

This cache is one of a series to be found along or close to the Hertfordshire/Buckinghamshire stretch of the canal.

Having adopted the nearby "Steep and Deep - Grand Union Series" cache from Alibags, it reminded me of the other cache of hers that I found on the same day - "Steeper and Deeper" which has since been Archived and so the idea of "Son of Steeper and Deeper" was born....

You can approach this cache by walking along the canal towpath through the cutting, (which is deep, tree lined and teeming with many wild birds, including the occasional Kingfisher), or if you are feeling lazy, there is limited parking by the bridge over the canal on Marshcroft Lane - please park considerately and do not obstruct the lane.

The cache is situated just off a footpath that runs parallel to the cutting along the top, you do not need to do any climbing but please take care when looking for this cache which is at the top of a very steep bank, and in places there is no rail!!

And now to the Cache :-

From the given coordinates, you should be able to see a metal Milepost beside the towpath, this is the starting point for this short Multi and will give you the values that you need to find stage 2

  • The number of miles to Braunston = AB
  • And the Year to be seen here = CDEF

Stage 2 can be found at N 51° 48.(A-C)CB W 000° 38.FA(D-E)

Near the coordinates that you have calculated you are looking for an Ordnance Survey Flush Bracket.

  • On this metal plate, the Total Number of letters = G
  • And the 3 digit Number on the plate = HJK

The Final can be found at N 51° 48.G(J+C)(H/J) W 000° 38.F(K-G)C

Please bring a pen and make sure that you replace the cache where you found it and as well hidden as possible - Thank you

Whilst setting this cache, it took a while for my GPS to settle, so please be patient whilst searching.

Please take care when looking for this cache (especially if you have small cachers with you) as you will be close to the canal and later at the top of a very steep bank, with water at the bottom of it.

Congratulations to Trixie81 on her FTF.
