Geocache Description:

Ήταν η προσωποποίηση του βόρειου ανέμου, ενώ κατά τον Ελλάνικο ήταν η προσωποποίηση του όρους Βόρα της Μακεδονίας. Ως προσωποποίηση του βόρειου ανέμου ήταν αδελφός του Ζέφυρου (δυτικού), του Εύρου (νοτιοανατολικού) και του Νότου (νότιου). Παρουσιαζόταν ως πολύ δυνατός άντρας και με πολύ βίαιο θυμό. Συνεχώς απεικονιζόταν ως φτερωτός γέρος με πυκνά μαλλιά και γένια, κρατώντας ένα κοχύλι και με φουσκωτό, από τον αέρα, μανδύα. Ο Βορέας σε μια επιδρομή του στην Αθήνα ερωτεύτηκε παράφορα την κόρη του βασιλιά της Αθήνας Ερεχθέα, Ωρείθυια. Στην αρχή προσπάθησε να τη φλερτάρει και να την πείσει να τον παντρευτεί αλλά αυτή αρνήθηκε τις προτάσεις του. Έξαλλος, αποφάσισε να την πάρει με την βία, αφού η βία του φάνηκε πιο λογική. Ενώ η Ωρείθυια έπαιζε και μάζευε άνθη στον Ιλισό την απήγαγε, την κάλυψε μέσα σε ένα μαύρο νέφος και τη βίασε. Τη μετέφερε στη Θράκη και έκανε 6 παιδιά μαζί της: τον Αίμο, τον Βούτη, τον Λυκούργο, την Κλεοπάτρα, τη Χιόνη και τους δυο Βορεάδες Αργοναύτες, τον Ζήτη και τον Καλάι. Οι δυο γιοι του Βορέα Καλάις και Ζήτης πήραν μέρος στην Αργοναυτική Εκστρατεία ως Αργοναύτες.
