Alder Springs in an 840 acre property that is part of the Crooked River National Grasslands. It includes sagebrush steppe, canyons and Whychus Creek. The property is actually bisected by Whychus Creek just above the confluence with the Deschutes River. There are spectacular viewpoints from atop the rimrock and April is a great opportunity to see some of the earliest wildflower displays in the high desert.
Join us Saturday, April 27th at the Alder Springs trailhead parking lot. A meet and greet happens at 7:30 am, followed by a day of hiking. Morning snacks and water will be provided between 7:30 and 8:00 am. There will be a logbook to sign and we’ll take a group photo shortly before 8:00 am. Let's exchange some travel bugs and then those that would like to can join other geocachers as we hike roughly 7-8 miles.
Some of you have done it; others of you want to, and having a group of like-minded individuals is a fun way to hike the day away. Besides some awesome scenery, we will have an opportunity to hopefully find GC2WNMZ, Dr. AwKwArD’s extreme Lonely Challenge. Along the way we may be able to pick up a couple other caches, including GC12REK, Above the Green “S”. We will use the first WP of the Green “S” to get us started on the right cowpath.
If you’re going to hike, please bring lots of water and a lunch. It’s still early in the season, but can be hot. Dress for the weather and be mindful of ticks in your clothing choices. So much to think about. Let’s meet up!
