As part of the 2019 City of Calgary River and Pathway cleanup initiative, let's get together and tidy up a section of river and pathway between Quarry Park and the Bow River. This area is a bit unique in that it includes a recently complete fish compensation project (more details in this pdf) that has restored some historical fish habitat which was lost in the 2013 flood. It's a nice area that is still coming back so let's help it out.
We'll meet at the posted coordinates at 2 PM and spread out to clean up as much as we can in the time that we have. A few things to keep in mind on the day:
Rubber gloves will be provided, if you want heavier duty gloves, please bring them along.
Garbage bags will be provided
A limited number of litter sticks will be available to borrow, bring your own if you like
Dress appropriately for the weather.
Wear sturdy, closed-toed footwear.
Bring a hat, sunscreen, water and insect repellent.
For the restored area, stay on the designated trails and pathways to avoid trampling the emerging vegetation
Work with a partner.
Wear protective gloves at all times.
Do not touch unknown items, syringes, glass or other sharp objects. Record the coordinates and report to me, I will contact 311 with a compiled list.
Do not compress garbage or reach into containers with hands or feet.
Leave natural materials behind (leaves, deadwood, bones, etc).
Do not wade into bodies of water to retrieve items.
If working near a pathway, be careful of cyclists, runners and walkers.
Do not remove large items (bikes, tires, sleeping bags, etc). Record the coordinates and report to me.
Do not enter illegal camps. Record the coordinates and report to me.
Take breaks. Drink water and wash or sanitize your hands before having a snack.
Have fun!
