There are Herring that live in Minnesota, but no red ones.
In Minnesota we use a wide range of lures that we have used in Minnesota. There are some however that have an iconic place in fishing. Meps, Daredevle, Rapala, Lindy Rig, Northland Tackle, etc. The largest is a Rapala that was originally made in Finland in 1936 Lauri Rapala. They were brought to the US in 1959 when Normark was established. With a staff of two Life Magazine publishes an article on Rapala in 1962, coincidentally this was one of the largest circulated issues ever(because of a Marilyn Monroe retrospective). This exposure overran this small company. In 1964 the Fish N' Fillet knife was introduce, I think anyone who has ever fished in Minnesota has seen one of these. In 1974 the company inovated by introducing a jointed floater, followed by adding the infamous Shad rap in 1982. These lures have become a household name.
