Geocache Description:

This cache has been established to inform of local maritime events in the distant past - now over 100 years ago.

On 4th October 1918 the Hirano Maru a merchant ship was sailing from Liverpool to Yokohama via South Africa with 320 crew and passengers. She was in a convoy escorted by an American destroyer, USS Sterett, to give protection against attack by submarines.

When the Hirano Maru was 200 miles south of Ireland she was hit by a torpedo fired by UB91, a Class III German submarine. The Hirano Maru sank in 7 minutes, going down so quickly that her few undamaged lifeboats could not be launched. The USS Sterett also came under attack and was stopped from rescuing the struggling survivors.

Nearly 300 men women and children were lost. Bodies washed up all along the Pembrokeshire coast and in Southern Ireland. Some victims were able to be identified and they were buried at Milford Haven and Angle. A wooden memorial was erected at Angle but this fell into disrepair. On the 100th anniversary of the tragedy a new grante memorial was unveiled.

At the memorial site gather all the data needed to locate the final stage of the cache which is a bison tube.

A. The memorial has how many blank sides (not the top) = A

B. How many other memorials are there within 15 meters of this memorial - don't count headstones = B.

C. The inscription is in how many languages = C.

D. How many letters are there in the first name of the named individual = D.

The final stage is at: N051 41.ABC W005 06.BBD

Congratulations if you manage to simultaneously solve both our multi caches on an amble through Angle!
