Geocache Description:

A man standing on the platform of a Railway Station noticed that a train passed him in 4 and a half seconds.

If the train was moving at a rate of 40 miles per hour, how long was the train?

This is one of the 1930's Arithmetic questions on the blackboard of the Otahu Flat school at the time of placing.

If you know the answer to this, and the others, personal message me with your answers and workings without using an calculator, because I would like to know the answers as well.

Located on the Southern Scenic route between Manapouri and Tuatapere, the one room school has recently been restored to its former glory, with George Harpur and Johnny O’Brien having done the bulk of the work.

There are plans for some information boards at the little shelter with sponsors advertising and also a picnic table

The public are inviting to step inside, just remember to shut the gates, if they were closed. It is also advised to visit only during daylight hours.

The school was first open for pupils in 1914, just before WW1, and closed in 1942.

Take time to look though the newspaper album on the teachers desk, as it has some old interesting images of Invercargill, Bluff and Manapouri in 1930.

It would be great if the FTFer was an international cacher, and not just a local getting a FTF buzz... thanks...

There's also plenty of room for trackables.

Please bring your own pen.
