Geocache Description:

This airport closed after the flood of 2010 and was obtained by Metro Parks to add to the Shelby Bottoms Greenway. Cornelia Fort was the first woman pilot to die in active duty during World War II. The Cornelia Fort Airpark was created in December of 1944 under the direction of Colemill Enterprises. It was once an active airport for flight instruction and charter service. There is a 3,500 foot long runway that is now utilized by many bicyclist and walkers throughout the Shelby bottoms Greenway. This cache is great for kids and those new to caching. This is a high traffic area and the cache is often found by people not seeking it. PLEASE LOCK THE CACHE BACK. Thank you.
