Did you know.........Cogswell Street, Halifax.." According to the Reverend George Hill's 1892 paper on street names in Halifax, this was first called Willow Tree Street, on account of a large willow at the corner of Gottingen. Later as a compliment to Henry H Cogswell, who owned a considerable amount of property near St Andrew's Cross[present day intersection of Quinpool and Robie],it came to be called Cogswell Street. One of the founders of the first bank established in Halifax, Cogswell amassed a considerable fortune. He could not have imagined the concrete behemoth---the Cogswell Interchange--- that carries his family's name in the twenty-first century." Christine Macy-- Halifax Street Names
