Geocache Description:

21 June 2019, 03:15 - 03:45

Where: The Avenue Noticeboard, Stonehenge National Trust Estate

When: Friday 21 June 2019

Time 0315 - 0345

A short Meet will take place in the early hours of Solstice morning adjacent to Stonehenge but just far enough away to be free from the crowds of revellers. Allow plenty of time to walk to the Meet which will finish in time to allow those that want to go onto witness the Solstice at the Stones plenty of time to get there. The sunrise is due at 0452. Entry to Stonehenge is free for the Solstice. If you are intending visiting the Stones please read the Conditions of Entry, which are strictly enforced, on the English Heritage website here.

The Meet will be held on National Trust farmland and walking boots, gaiters or leggings and warm clothing are strongly recommended. The grass can be very wet with early morning dew. Torch or headtorch essential. Due to the nature of the ground wheelchair access is not possible.

Parking at Stonehenge is limited and expensive, £15 per car, and will be well signposted. Recommended parking is at Countess Rd where there is plenty of room alongside the road. Please be aware that this is a residential area so please keep noise to a minimum. There will be some non-believers still asleep.

Although by looking at a map it might seem possible to park at Larkhill the Police and MOD Police often apply parking restrictions sometimes at short notice.

Be aware there is likely to be heavy traffic in the area, especially on the A303, so adjust travelling time accordingly.

I will be leaving the gateway, opposite Countess Rd parking, at 0235 precisely for the 40min walk to the Avenue Noticeboard via Gates A and B Waypoints. Anyone willing to join me I would appreciate a note in your Will Attend so will know who to look out for in the dark.

For those accessing the Meet from the official parking use Gate C Waypoint. These Waypoints have been listed so there will be no need to climb any fences and, hopefully, to avoid any electric fences.

NO cycling or dogs are allowed on the NT farmland.

Kind permission to use the National Trust ground has been granted by Rhodri Gruffydd, National Trust Visitor Experience Officer, Stonehenge Landscape.
