A fallen giant pining away near the top of the Craig, but living still, shelters me from the weather. Rooting around will locate my hiding place.
Craig Varr is the 'must visit' viewpoint for the Kinloch Rannoch area. The peak overlooking the River Tummel and the village affords stunning views as far as Glencoe to the West and over Dunalastair to Loch Tummel in the East.
Climb The Craig by any of the established paths. The Craig Varr Hill race, each year, produces times to the top and back of less than 20 minutes but you are likely to take a lot longer. Be aware that Craig Varr is a mountain! The path can be steep and very wet even in dry weather. In winter you may encounter snow and ice even when the village is clear. You will need stout footwear. The final ascent and the approach to it are very exposed and wind chill will make it feel quite cold, even on bright sunny days.
Schiehallion broods in the middle distance. See if you can spot the Sleeping Giant across the strath and look out for wild Red Deer on the braes. The Glen opposite winding south is Glen Sassum (the glen of the English). Here, Robert the Bruce chased away a small army of English and Scots warriors loyal to the English king following the Battle of Innerhadden shortly before his great victory at Bannockburn.
