On the way up
Of course, you might be on the way down. Either way, you are now on Clint Lane – it isn’t a right of way but most of it is on access land. The lane is shown on the 1815 pre-enclosure map but probably dates from second half of 18th century.
The quarries above were known as Clint Quarries and the dictionary tells me that clint is “a block forming part of a natural limestone pavement, separated from others by fissures”.
You may need tweezers or a pin to extract the log.
