Welcome to SARINA, the home of Buffy the Cane Toad.
Buffy was created in 1986 by a local business owner for the town's annual Sugar Festival Mardi Gras. The original construction was a metal frame, chicken wire and papermachè. It has since been fibreglassed.
After a few years of private ownership, it was donated to the people of Sarina and the council has put it on display here, in the middle of town, as a commemoration of the town's sugar industry.
There are 3 commemorative plaques here. One tells the story of cane toads, one displays the names of the local football legends who came from Sarina and played for the Queensland Origin side (affectionately known as the Cane Toads), and one that commemorates the local business woman and councilor who was instrumental in the creation of Buffy, and who sadly passed away in June 2018.
There is a table and chairs here to enjoy a bite to eat or a rest on your way through.
