Geocache Description:

There was a geocache here a few years ago very much like this one. We like history and so since we live very near here CadanceO and I decided to replace it. The cords will lead you to the area of a Historical Maker at Council Grove State Park. The geocache is NOT at the Marker. It is about a 15 minute hike to the final geocache if you go via my recommended route below.

We hope you will find the Historical Marker interesting and learn some history from it. To find the geocache you will need to study the map on the left and count the number of symbols on the map to get numbers to put into the coordinates to find the final location.

The final location is at: N46* 54.A B C and W114* 09.D E F

A= How many Salmon minus the number of Peace Pipes

B= How many Moose

C= How many Elk

D= How many Peace Pipes plus the number of Elk

E= How many Buffalo minus 1

F= How many Elk plus the number of Moose

You are looking for an ammo can. Watch for muggles. This is a “Primitive” State Park – there is a privy and a few picnic tables but do not plan on drinking water (there is a hand pump but I think it does not work). Pack it in and pack it out. There is a popular swimming hole in the river and dogs are welcome.

There are lots of areas to explore and a number of other geocaches. The park consists of 187 acres and there is NO entry fee. The river is not the main channel of the Clark Fork, If you cross the river you are on a large island of which only the far west end is private (old half down barbed wire fence) – the rest is part of the park. We love to ride our horses here – if the river is not too high we can ride them from our house or we can trailer them here to ride.

NOTE: This is a day tine cache only! The park is only open during daylight hours. In the winter you may find the gate closed and you would have to walk in from the highway and there is very limited parking by the gate (but some do it).

NOTE: As a "sum check" if you add the 54.ABC to the 09.DEF you should have 64.419. The nicest trail way to get there is to head for the river from the monument - then head down river along the trail to the slough and take the trail to the right to the final cords. That will save a lot of bushwhacking and we prefer everyone use existing trails!

Yup, one more NOTE: I did get a permit for this geocache to be on our public property at the State Park and so they are aware of it and approved the location.
