Welcome to my first cache hide.
Langdale common has always been one of my favourite places to walk, and this particular footpath will lead you up to the lake. (In time I plan to place a series along this route.)
The main footpath and cycle track leads from Cogges Church and Cogges Manor Farm Museum through to the town centre. I have provided a parking waypoint at the town centre. The two bridges cross over the river Windrush which was essential in the sheep farming and woolen industry which forms the history of our town. The footpath to the cache leads off between the two bridges, and at this time (May 2019) is well maintained by the council, although over the years it has been quite overgrown so please be aware of this in the future.
I was walking this route last week and the “sloth” caught my eye. He also reminds me of the monkey who escaped the circus on Church Green and climbed the steeple of St Mary’s. Rumour has it that when the steeple was rebuilt, after a storm in 1636 destroyed the original, a small mark was placed to show him holding on. Walking from The Leys to Church Green if you look up at the steeple at the right angle you may be able to see his hand (children can see it more easily).
This cache is a 25mm wide tube which will hold small swaps.
Hope you enjoy.
