A simple multi cache around Elloughton with an easy walk of about 1 mile / 1.6 km.
The village of Elloughton lies approximately 12 miles (19 km.) to the west of Kingston upon Hull, to the south side of the A63 road and on the southern end of the Yorkshire Wolds. It is conjoined with Brough, which lies to the south-east, with which it forms the civil parish of Elloughton-cum-Brough. This multi-cache takes you around a pleasant corner of the village and it should be straightforward for geokids to help collect the clues.
The co-ordinates posted above for the cache are for free car parking available along Brantingham Road.
To find the cache you’ll need to collect the clues at the locations below.
Location 1 - N 53° 44.420' W 0° 34.135' - The Half Moon Pub
Above the main entrance is a circular window. There are A panes of glass in this window.
Location 2 - N 53° 44.435' W 0° 34.093'- The Information Board.
Lots to read on this board that details the history of the village. But what you’re looking for is the year the mammoth tusk was discovered (188B).
Location 3 - N 53° 44.501' W 0° 34.094' – ‘Meeting Place’
The name of this brick meeting place was built in 1871 – count the number of letter L’s found in its name to get the value of C.
Location 4 - N 53° 44.516' W 0° 34.194' – St Mary's Church.
A church was recorded at Elloughton, in the Domesday Book in 1086 with the present church having been built in the latter half of the 13th century. Naturally as we have taken you to a church yard you need to find some gravestones! They should be easy to find and there’s no need to leave the path
The first grave you need is that of Ann, the beloved wife of William Hudson. Ann died aged 5D years old.
The second grave is that of Ebenezer Wilson who died in 1E07.
Thanks to Ann and Ebenezer.
Location 5 - N 53° 44.507' W 0° 34.170' – Fire Hydrant.
On Church Lane is a yellow fire hydrant sign. At the bottom of the H is the single number F.
You now have all the numbers you need to complete your task. The final location is only a short distance away. There is a bench near the fire hydrant sign where you can sit and collate your data.
The cache is a micro container with only enough room for the log (please take your own pen or pencil) and is located at
N053° 44.DCE' W000° 34.(2xF)(A-7)(B-D)
If sat on the bench with your back to the church you can either reach the cache by turning left along Church Street to reach Brantingham Road, or you can turn right and walk down Church Lane and follow the Public Bridleway to Spindlewood. We think the second route is the nicest.
Please note once you arrive at the cache there is no need to leave the path to be able to access it.
