Geocache Description:

This is a wonderful country cemetery on the homestead of Martin Johnson Sr. He is the Great-Great-Great-Great Grandfather of ShesFroggy. The reference point marks his grave and a magnificent old tree. Take time to read the gravestone plaque and observe the tree.

Martin Johnson, Sr. was born 1777 in Virginia, then served in the Tennessee Militia long enough to receive bounty land, granted by the Congress. Martin, his wife Mary and several other families from Warren Tennessee then headed West in what was probably a large wagon train of friends and relatives. Arriving in Arkansas in the early 1800’s they settled in the Madison county area. After farming and raising a large family, it appears Martin and Mary were buried in Wesley Cemetery (although gravestones have not survived), on this land they once owned adjacent to their homestead.

Also travelling with Martin were many of ShesFroggy's direct ancestors, including the families of Lucas, Ledbetter, Hankins, Lollars, Pickens, Youngs, Hawks, Lawsons, Homesleys and Martin’s son, James B. Johnson. Many of the individuals are buried in this cemetery as well.

Now for the cache. It is a very small micro. Please sign only your initials and replace it exactly as you found it so others can enjoy. There are many head stones here dating back to the 1700s and many civil war veterans as well. There is another cache close by. Enjoy. As always, cemetery caches are only available from sunrise to sunset.

Congratulations to Yazz for another FTF!
