Geocache Description:

Parking at N44 15.230 W73 58.317 pick up the Ski Jump trail from the Northeast corner of the parking area.  Following the trail it will bring you close by the base of the Olympic ski Jumping Complex before reaching the cache.   The Lake Placid Club built the first ski jump on this site in 1920, using the hillside itself as the jump surface.  In 1927, a new steel tower was built, raising the jump to 60 meters. In 1928, the tower was raised to 75 meters; this was the tower used for the 1932 Winter Olympic Games. In 1977, the old tower was demolished to make way for new 70 and 90-meter jumps, used for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. In 1994 their height were increased to 90 and 120 meters.

This cache has been placed as part of the 2019 New York State Saratoga/Capital District Regional Geocache Challenge.  The stamp inside this cache is part of the game, and it is not a trade item – please do not take the stamp. There are 72 geocaches hidden within 18 state parks and historic sites in this park region, and geocachers finding 45 or more will be eligible to receive a 2019 Moreau Lake State Park commemorative and trackable geocoin.  If you are interested in taking the challenge, you can pick up a geocache passport at any of the participating parks and sites or download it at www.nysparks.com.
