Zhishanyan (芝山岩) is a small hill in Shilin, Taipei. Its height is only 50M but it is the only place in Taipei that covers ecology, archaeology and cultural history that date back to 7000 years ago. The hill is covered by boardwalks or stairs to preserve the habitats of the nature so you can relax and enjoy while caching.
There are many entrances to begin your hike of Zhishanyan. There is one where an elderly man sells Ramune aka soda pop with marble. Across from this entrance lies a little park that houses an enormous wall with the inscriptions of an agreement that dates back to 1805 (芝山合約碑記). The story began with an argument between temple staff and local people with regards to entering the mountain for logging. In order to subdue conflicts, the donors of the temple set a stone as entitlement to use the land. The original stone is about 116x60cm big and located near the east side of the temple (懷古園)
