Geocache Description:

I am placing this cache to honor and to celebrate the lives of my best friend’s maternal grandparents.  Both passed away many years ago. Their tombstone is approximately 10 feet from the cache......it will say Blanko.

Mount Kelly Cemetery is a beautiful historic cemetery located at 23250 Cherry Hill Road in Dearborn, MI.  It is situated on 3.5 acres in a lovely, quiet, tree-lined neighborhood. The tranquility of the cemetery is enhanced by the statuary and the lovely flower beds scattered throughout the grounds.

The cemetery has been serving the Dearborn area since 1856 as part of the Diocese of Detroit. It was consecrated in May of 1875 by Bishop Casper Borgess. It is the oldest, active Catholic cemetery in Dearborn. {Taken from Mount Kelly Website}.

Mount Kelly is named in honor of Father Patrick O'Kelly. Father O'Kelly was born in Ballycannan, Ireland in 1782. In 1831 Father O'Kelly built the first Catholic Church in Michigan. In 1856 he was given charge of St. John's Parish in Dearbornville (Sacred Heart Parish). Father O'kelly died October 7, 1858 and is buried beneath the floor of the chapel.

Cemetery hours are from dawn to dusk.  I was surprised there was no cache in this beautiful cemetery so I wanted to rectified that!  Please be respectful and reverent.  No night caching.  Please take care to place the cache back in it's hiding place securely.

Parking is available curbside outside of the cemetery near the gates.

Enjoy the container, I hope it brings me favorite points! Happy Caching!
