Lighter Flintstones
The living symbol of the Women’s Market in Sofia is a blind merchant. From time to time Bai Tsanko looks up as if staring at the sun. No one knows for how long the oldest seller of lighter flintstones in Bulgaria has been a part of the biggest market in the capital. White-headed Sofia residents wrinkle foreheads, calculate something in their minds and say that it must have been more than half a century.
„Lighter flintstones“ mutters the blind man and shakes the box. Bai Tsanko is such an integral part of the scene that no one ever notices he has not sold anything for years. Nevertheless, the seller is at the marked everyday in his blue apron, cuffed jeans and army boots.
The other part of the merchant conspiracy, is that no one knows when and where from Bai Tsanko has arrived, how old he is. No one knows where he goes in the evening. His own legend is that he still supports himself with sales. He now sells less, he says, but a flintstone costs 10 stotinki and his stocks will last for the next five years at least. According to the public opinion Bai Tsanko has not seen the sun for around 70 years. He contracted an eye disease and lost his sight before it was time for him to go to school.

Камъчета за запалки
Живият символ на Женския пазар в София е търговец слепец. Бай Цанко от време на време забелва очи нагоре и се блещи срещу слънцето. Никой не знае от колко години най-старият продавач на камъчета за запалки в България е част от най-голямото столично тържище. Вече побелели софиянци бърчат чело, смятат нещо на ум и отсичат, че има половин век поне.
„Камъчета за запалки, моля“, измърморва слепецът и раздрънква кутийката. Бай Цанко така се е сраснал с пейзажа, че на никой даже не му прави впечатление, че стоката му от години не се купува. Въпреки това, продавачът на камъчета всеки ден е на пазара облечен в синя престилка, подвити дънки и обут с агресорки.
Другата част от конспирацията на търговеца е, че никой не знае и кога, и откъде е дошъл бай Цанко, на колко години е. Никой не знае и къде се прибира вечер. Легендата на слепия търговец е, че се издържа още с търговия. Сега продавал по-малко, но камъчето върви по 10 стотинки, а запасите му са поне за една петилетка напред. Според всеобщо мнение бай Цанко не е виждал слънцето около 70 години. Заболял с очите още като малък и докато тръгне на училище, ослепял.
