Geocache Description:

Lance Cpl. Steven G. Sutton, 24, of Leesburg, Ga., died May 26, 2012 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. He was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the NATO Medal.

“At 6-foot-7, he stood tall among his peers, both in size and demeanor. ‘He was just a good kid. Slow to anger — as big as he was you could understand how a kid his size could be overbearing or aggressive — but that just wasn’t him,’ Lee County High School Principal Kevin Dowling recalled. ‘He had a kind way about him, was never any trouble and was the kind of student we strive to create here in Lee County.’

And by all reports, that was the kind of man — the kind of Marine — he grew up to be.”

Lance Cpl. Steven G. Sutton has been remembered in several ways.  One of which is this very nice park and boat landing.  Spend a few minutes reading the memorial to Lance Cpl. Sutton.  Look the park over and then decide to come back with all your family and friends and maybe a boat or two.

This is a log only cache.

Like some Marines things are not always what they seem.  They can hide in plain sight.

This cache does not require any climbing, or digging through the memorial and decorative flowers, so please don’t do so.  Also for your own safety do not enter the utilities fence on the far left of the park.  Like all outdoors in southwest Georgia, the park is blessed with wildlife to include some things to avoid (snakes, ticks, mosquitos - along with other biting insects.) and we can’t forget poison ivy and related plants.

Speaking of things to avoid, depending on the day, and time of day muggles may be around.  Thus stealth may be required!

Cache was placed with permission of the Lee County Parks Department.

Note: Log in INSIDE of the Cache.
