Mr. Spicer was a good friend of ours as well as the former caretaker at the FWMA before his recent passing. He contributed many hours of his life to the upkeep of this beautiful and historically significant place. With that in mind, I have placed this cache in his honour, with the kind permission of his family, (in fact, his daughter and son-in-law, the current caretakers, were present when it was hidden). Also with their permission, I am posting below an extract from his obituary to give you an idea as to the kind of person he was and the life he led.
He served overseas during WW II as a Navigator with RCAF 426 Thunderbird Squadron. He was a member of the Halifax Aircraft Association and the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association. Lorne was very active with his community and went above and beyond with all the organizations he chaired and volunteered with. He was a founding member of Rosy Rhubarb, Elgin Stewardship Council, Shedden Keystone Complex, Southwold Veterans Committee (War Memorial), Fingal Wildlife Management Area, Lorne Spicer Trail at Backus-Page House, St. Thomas Field Naturalists, Elgin Heritage Tree Committee, and minor sports in Shedden. His love of the outdoors and passion for his community was evident in everything he was involved with.
