This section of the Hauraki Rail Trail is 12.5 km long and runs from Kopu to Pipiroa. It’s flat with plenty of bird life. In face an amazing array of birdlife. I think sp8sm8 listed them well in HRT Twitchers Paradise. I saw the most amazing yellow birds, light blue, dark blue, brown plus the Pukekos and many others.
The trail is very exposed, with no shelter, could get very hot in summer. Main entrances are at Kopu (either side of the Bridge) and Pipiroa, opposite the café with that name.
We decided to ride this from Kopu to the existing cache nearer Pipiroa to place a few caches to continue the HRT theme and encourage people to ride the trail.
We enjoyed the trail on a sunny winters day, with lots of long straights we enjoyed setting a steady pace along the trail.
We tried to find places of significant enough interest to warrant a cache. We actually left the bag at home with the camo’d caches, so had to make do with what we had with us.
This is an amazing view of the Mangrove Forest around here, which also probably contributes to the birdlife around here.
The cache is a small medicine container - container, stash note, log and pathtag. Please make sure its covered.
